Shiny Pokémon

Rare Pokémon in different colours, with a sparkle when they appear. Each one you own gets a ★ in the Pokédex.

Odds

The Shiny Charm (Lab Item, after 70 different Pokémon caught) makes shinies ×1.5 as likely at level 0, up to ×2.0 at level 5 — but only while it's active. A shiny trading card is a different thing: any card pull can be shiny (1 in 500).

Legendary and mythical Pokémon can't be shiny for now. Their shiny forms will only come from raids, and raids are not in the game yet. They still use up their shiny roll on every encounter, but nothing comes of it.

What a shiny does

• Click attack: each Pokémon you own adds 1 to your click attack, a shiny adds 2.
• Breeding: a shiny hatch gives ×5 the usual attack bonus.
• Farm: a shiny wanderer gives ×5 Farm Petals.
• Shinies count toward the shiny achievements and daily quests (catching one pays very well).
• You can show your shiny in battle: open it in the Pokédex and tap SHOW IN BATTLE.

A shiny's attack in battle is the same as the normal one's.

Catching them

• A shiny can still get away. Set AUTO-CATCH (ITEMS → AUTO-CATCH) so "New shiny" gets your best ball — a Master Ball never misses. Master Balls are only thrown at shinies you don't have yet.
• Once you own the shiny of a Pokémon, its normal form counts too: you don't need both.
• When you become the Champion, the Shiny Hunting story quest gives you a first shiny for free.
• New shinies get a NEW mark on the Pokédex button until you have looked at them.

Hunting tips

• Dungeons have twice the route odds, and you meet many Pokémon fast.
• Breeding gives a shiny chance on every hatch (1 in 1,024), and it ignores the Shiny Charm.
• Shop Pokémon and fossils are 1 in 1,024 each: worth it for the ones you can buy.
