Day Care & breeding

The Day Care opens after 10 defeats on Route 3. It hatches eggs and breeds your level-100 Pokémon to make them stronger for good.

How it works

  • Put an egg (from a shop) or a Lv 100 Pokémon in an empty slot. A Pokémon in the Day Care doesn't fight until it hatches.
  • Eggs don't hatch by waiting: every Pokémon you defeat adds steps to every egg. Harder routes and dungeons add more.
  • When an egg is ready it wiggles: tap HATCH!
  • A Pokémon you never had joins your team. A Pokémon you already have gets +25% attack for good, and if it was bred it comes back at level 1 to level up again.
  • Hatches can be shiny: 1 in 1,024. A shiny hatch gives ×5 the bonus.
  • The bonuses only add up (4 hatches = +100%, not ×2⁴).

Egg slots

You start with one slot. More cost Quest Pearls, up to 4:

  • Slot 2: 1,000 QP
  • Slot 3: 1,500 QP
  • Slot 4: 2,000 QP

Steps per defeat

Each defeat adds round(√n) steps, where n is the route's difficulty step. The best place to hatch is the hardest route where your team still wins fast: the wiki's route pages and the in-game route card show steps per defeat, and the game also shows steps per minute.

Vitamins

A Pokémon can hold 5 vitamins for every region you have reached (5 with Kanto, 10 with Johto, 15 with Hoenn). They do nothing on their own; they change what every hatch of that Pokémon gives. The League Shops sell them:

  • Protein: +1 attack per hatch for each one.
  • Calcium: +1% attack per hatch for each one, on sale once you have reached Hoenn.

Each one also adds 0.5 egg cycle (20 steps) to its egg. See where to buy them.

Day Care helpers

After 100 hatches you can hire helpers (up to 3, never more than your slots). A helper takes one slot, puts your next level-100 Pokémon in it, hatches it and starts the next, and is paid per egg. Mark Pokémon with ♥ in PARTY and helpers breed only those.

HelperHire afterPer eggStepsBonus
Milo 100 hatches 1,000 ₽ 10% 10%
Theo 500 hatches 10,000 ₽ 10% 20%

Steps: the share of your egg steps the helper walks. Bonus: the share of the hatch bonus its hatches give. Both grow with every egg a helper handles: +1 after 50, +10 after 5,000, up to +50 points.
