Buddy & Trainer Card
The Pokémon Fan Club in Vermilion City wants to meet your favourite. Its quest gives you a buddy and a card that shows who you are as a trainer.
The Best Friends quest
When you reach Vermilion City. See also Best Friends among the story quests.
- Visit the Pokémon Fan Club in Vermilion City.
- Take your buddy on the road. Defeat 300 Pokémon.
- A club member wants a photo of you and your buddy.
- Show the chairman the Pokémon you're proudest of.
- The chairman has one last thing for you.
- The first step gives you your buddy.
- The photo gives you your Trainer Card.
- Showing the chairman your Pokémon fills your showcase.
- The last step gives you the title Fan Club Member and 3 × Rare Candy.
Your buddy
- Any Pokémon you own can be your buddy, forms and shinies too. A shiny buddy shows as shiny.
- It stays by your side in battle. There is always a buddy from then on, but you can switch it whenever you like, from PARTY or from your card.
- It gives no bonus. It's only there to keep you company, so choose the one you like best.
Your Trainer Card
You open your card from the TRAINER tab.

The showcase
You start with 3 slots and can change your choice on the card at any time. Each Champion you beat opens one more:

Other trainers' cards
When you play online, you can open the card of another trainer who is in the same place. It shows the same things as your own, and COMPARE POKéDEX shows which Pokémon only one of you has caught. Doing that for the first time earns the achievement Friendly Rivals.
